A worked example
Choosing between two 3PLs. Each criterion has a weight (3 matters most). Each option is scored from 1 to 5. Weighted score = weight × score.
| Criterion | Weight | 3PL X score | 3PL Y score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | 3 | 4 | 2 |
| Service | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| Location | 1 | 2 | 5 |
| Weighted total | 20 | 19 |
3PL X scores 12 + 6 + 2 = 20 and 3PL Y scores 6 + 8 + 5 = 19. A missing score is flagged, not counted as zero. The score supports the decision; it does not make it.
